character name: Miles
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Timeline: Post-Chapter 108
character's age: Late 20s, headcanonly.
powers, skills, pets and equipment:
Miles’s job in the military is Tactician. He creates plans for the military and, in turn, other scenarios. Within a few minutes, after they meet Scar, he immediately comes up with a plan to get them all out without Kimblee finding out. While the plan executed was not the one he came up with, he does think quickly on his feet, as shown in those plans. This is also where his intelligence, another skill he has, shines through. Being second in command at Briggs, he has to be far more competent than any other soldier. Olivier relies on him for information, and it must be as correct as possible. Despite never being shown that he does fight, he does wield a pistol, so he, at the least, must be competent with it. Miles is also rather amazing at survival. He has to be at Briggs, the far north of Amestris, a frozen tundra filled with plenty of blizzards. He survives on his intelligence and his brute strength; two very important things to be able to outlast the weather.
canon history: Major Miles to you
personality: The Motto of Fort Briggs, called the Northern wall of Amestris, the main country of Fullmetal Alchemist, is that ‘The Strong Survive’. Miles does not look like your typical Briggs soldier, who are very muscular and strong. He mainly survives on his intelligence, not to say he isn’t physically strong too because of those conditions. He’s always thinking of the next move, always carefully plotting what his next course of action will be. He takes his job very seriously; if a job needs to get done, it will get done. If someone needs to be killed, he will give the order without hesitation. He knows how to give out orders, and people listen and follow along. However, he knows as well that his way is not always the best way, and does take suggestions into account in order to make plans well. Miles, for the most part, knows what needs to be done, and knows how to get it done.

Miles has a coldness to him when he first meets people. He isn’t one to spur on conversation, or actually answer questions until something comes up that he feels necessary to answer, such as Edward Elric’s question about his own secret. For the most part, he’s a serious man, not showing emotion at all. The sunglasses he wears prevent people from seeing his eyes, hiding any emotion one could get from them. However, once he does, finally, open up, he’s not a bad guy at all. He’ll even smile every now and again. He’s compassionate and kind, especially to the other soldiers in Briggs.

Besides Briggs, he takes the most pride in his home country of Ishval, despite being only one quarter Ishvallan. Along the way, he has faced doubts towards Olivier as to why he’s even here and not purged like the rest of them, and why she would keep him there. It is then that he realizes that he must stay in the military, to complete a new goal set out. ‘To change the public perception of Ishvalans’ is what he currently strives for. As such, he has a lot of pride in his people. The only person he has hesitated to kill is Scar, another Ishvalan, one known for killing State Alchemists. Despite their initial meeting being of the worst way (which would be after Miles knows of Scar’s attacks on the State Alchemists), there is a bond between them, where Scar almost looks up to Miles with pride (‘I’m glad that there are still people like you.’). Miles can show mercy, however he makes Scar promise to come back for his sentencing for his crimes, so he can help, rather than force him into sentencing immediately. However, this is part of a larger plan that Miles needs him for.

There’s one person that can rattle this cool collected man to the bones, and that would be Kimblee, otherwise known as the Crimson Alchemist, the man who killed more Ishvalans than anyone else. Because of the pride that Miles has in his people, and in his blood, he can easily get riled up at this man, especially when Kimblee was bringing up Ishval and how his family died. It was at that point that he lost it and he started to swear at him. Miles has threatened Kimblee on one occasion, and has attempted to kill him on another. To him, Kimblee is just bad news.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? Miles would be good for the setting. With the paranormal things, he's use to them back home, facing alchemy, chimeras, and homonculi, all within the span of a very short amount of time. As well, being up in Briggs, the coldest place on earth, he's learned to survive almost anything that is thrown at him. Overall, he's very well suited to the setting and with Olivier there, he would fit in just fine.

He was still cooking, even after that network post, so he decided that, since he was alone on a route with just him and his new creature, that he could do a bit of makeshift work with his uniform so he didn't die. Looking towards him, he nodded, and moved closer to a tree. The moment he removed his jacket, he felt relief. No more heat bugging him like it had before. He had stopped sweating so much too too. How nice was that.

However, he was still hot, and even his Pokemon noticed the problem. He couldn't do much else about the rest, his pants and his boots had to stay on. Even the jacket was going to be a pain if he decided to carry it around. However, he was a Briggs soilder. He would work it out. Normally, he'd suffer through the heat, but it was getting to the point where he felt like he would have a heat stroke if he continued like that. Just a few minutes of cooling off, and then he'd pull it on before he headed off again. He let out a heavy sigh, holding his coat in his arms, while he stayed in the shade. Whatever he could do to cool off.

Until his Spheal came over and started to squirt him with water gun. He looked pretty surprised when they was happening. Removing his sunglasses so they didn't break, he just... gave Spheal a look. The ball Pokemon stopped spray and looked down at the ground. Sad about the look. "Hey." He moved over and bent down to pet the creature. "Thank you." He smiled a bit to the creature. He was just a thoughtful thing. And he was thankful for him. Making sure the water didn't affect his coat too much, he slipped it back on. "We'll make the next town by nightfall. Stay close." He had already planned the rest of their route out... they should be there almost immediately.

Anything else? ...Anything else? :D
